Prelim, Diary and My Thriller

OUR PRELIM VIDEO

Our prelim we filmed was for us to practise the cameras and learn how to use both the cameras and the editing suite. We can tell by watching this video that we didn't have much experience when filming this clip. Mostly because the videos editing isn't the best, since the continuity doesn't flow well. We used a tripod for this activity, i think next time we would plan where the camera would be a bit better. In conclusion to this, we could improve by filming it again, also taking more and longer shots which would be easier to cut together.

MY DIARY

Tuesday 4th January
This was our first day in the editing suite with our tape. The first thing we did was watch our thriller to see what footage we had and to see how it turned out. We thought when we first looked over our tape that we had enough shots for the 2 minute piece we had to produce.

Wednesday 5th January
Following on from the day before, we started to capture all the shots, the best out of about 3 or 4 takes. When we captured these we had to leave space either side of the shot so we had all of shot included there, and cut the bits out which we needed. Once we had captured all these shots, which took about 30 minutes or so, we then saved this to the shared user, so we could access this from all areas of the college.

Thursday 6th January
When we logged on today we then had all the footage which we had captured the day before, so this meant we could start edited them together. The problem we faced while doing this was choosing the shots which flowed together the best, and which shots we wanted to use for match-on-action.

Friday 7th January
We carried on today with the editing of the shots, and continuing to make them flow using match-on-action.

Tuesday 11th January
In this lesson we discussed with Dawn which shots were OK to use and which shots weren't good enough for the final 2 minutes. Dawn then told us once we'd re-filmed our film she'd watch it again and let us know if it was OK.

Wednesday 12th January
We took on Dawns advise in this lesson and we tried our best to make our shots work together. They all flowed well it was just the way we had filmed it which didn't work properly.

Thursday 13th January
Today we showed Dawn our best efforts with what filming we had and used. While watching it, it became aware that we may have to film again.

Friday 14th January
We decided we needed to re film our Thriller, simply because we didn't have enough shots to get us up to 2 minutes. We then hit the problem of the people we used to be able to fit in with us, to film again. We got in touch with them and found out we weren't free around the same times, so we figured that we needed different people to be in our film. This meant we needed to re film everything we already had, also had to change the location sheets since we filmed at a different place.

Tuesday 18th January
We edited on the 16th, Sunday. We were all free and so were our actors. We had to go through all of the procedures like we did before, so the capturing, and the cutting of the shots to make the 2 minutes flow. Since we'd done this before and knew what we were doing we moved through this quite quickly. We got all of the shots done, and realised it wasn't long enough so we did some more filming that night to finalise the filming.

Wednesday 19th January
We watched the new filming and captured this all to put into the Thriller. We moved the shots around quite a lot and make the continuity work better than before, considering the light of the shots.

Thursday 20th January
Today we added the titles to the shots, and we also did the log sheets and the edit decision lists of the new film, Me and Emma stayed behind and finished off some of edit decision lists, and i took them home and scanned them as, as i thought this would of been easier than doing this in college, in case the scanner wasn't free.

Friday 21st January
This was our last lesson editing, which meant we had to make sure everything was finished off ready for our piece of filming. This meant we needed to make sure all of the shots linked together, making the continuity work. We also needed to delete all back ground sound from the filming, since the cameras picked up sound too, we then put our own music over the top of the sequence which made the piece more intense. By the end of this lesson we had done everything that needed to be done.

Tuesday 25th January
We went back and looked at our film again, just to make sure everything was OK with the Thriller. We realised we hadn't put the full credits on yet, which meant this needed doing.
